Importing Your Customer Addresses

Upload existing customer data via CSV and populate your address book in minutes.

If you have existing customer data in a spreadsheet or another system, you can bulk import it to DeliverNorth instead of entering each address manually.

Time Required: 5-10 minutes
You'll Need: Customer addresses in Excel/CSV format

Step 1: Prepare Your CSV File

DeliverNorth accepts CSV (comma-separated values) files. Most spreadsheet programs can export to CSV.

Required Columns:

  • name - Customer or business name
  • address - Street address
  • city - City name
  • state - State (2-letter code: NY, CA, TX, etc.)
  • zip_code - ZIP code

Optional Columns:

  • phone - Phone number
  • email - Email address
  • company - Company name (if different from name)
  • notes - Special delivery instructions
Example CSV format:
name,address,city,state,zip_code,phone
John Doe,123 Main St,Memphis,TN,38103,901-555-0100
Jane Smith,456 Peachtree Ave,Atlanta,GA,30303,404-555-0200

Step 2: Export from Your Current System

From Excel or Google Sheets:

  1. Open your spreadsheet
  2. Click "File" → "Save As" or "Download"
  3. Choose "CSV" as the file format
  4. Save the file to your computer

From Onfleet:

  1. Log in to Onfleet
  2. Go to "Recipients" or "Address Book"
  3. Click "Export" or "Download"
  4. Select CSV format

Step 3: Upload to DeliverNorth

  2. Click "Clients" or "Contacts" in the left sidebar
  3. Click "Import" or "Upload CSV"
  4. Click "Choose File" and select your CSV file
  5. Map your columns (if needed):
    • Match your CSV column names to DeliverNorth fields
    • For example, if your CSV has "customer_name", map it to "name"
    • If your CSV uses "postal_code" or "province", map to "zip_code" and "state"
  6. Click "Import"
DeliverNorth will process your file and show you a preview. Review it for accuracy, then confirm the import.

Step 4: Verify the Import

  1. Check that all addresses imported correctly
  2. Look for any errors or warnings
  3. Fix any addresses that didn't geocode properly
Common Issues:
  • Missing or invalid ZIP codes
  • Incomplete addresses (no street number)
  • Incorrect state codes (use 2-letter: NY, CA, not New York, California)

The system will flag these for you to review and fix.

Tips for Clean Imports

  • Use complete addresses - Include street number, street name, unit number (if applicable)
  • Standardize state codes - Use 2-letter codes (NY, CA, TX) not full names
  • Format ZIP codes correctly - 5 digits (12345) or 9 digits with hyphen (12345-6789)
  • Remove special characters - Avoid commas, quotes, or unusual characters in address fields
  • Test with a small batch first - Import 10-20 addresses to make sure your format is correct before uploading thousands
  • Keep a backup - Save your original CSV file before making changes

What Happens After Import?

Once imported, your customer addresses are:

  • Geocoded automatically - DeliverNorth looks up GPS coordinates for routing
  • Available for quick delivery creation - Start typing a name when creating deliveries and autocomplete will find them
  • Editable anytime - Update addresses, phone numbers, or notes as needed
  • Reusable - Create multiple deliveries to the same address without re-entering data
